SEEING SPIRITUAL INDIA
Photographs of Temples and Culture of South India
by Stephen Knapp
This book shows 345 color photographs of temples, architecture and the culture of South India. This is a companion book that provides some of the photos of the places that are fully described in my guidebook, “Seeing Spiritual India: A Guide to Temples, Holy Sights, Festivals and Traditions: 2020 Update,” which is more than 650 pages of information on places all over India.
In this book we will see such locations as Tirupati, one of the richest temples in India; Sri Rangam, one of the most important Vishnu temples in the country; along with such ancient sights as Kanchipuram, Chidambaram, Kumbakonam, Tanjore, Ramesvaram, Kanya Kumari, Trivandrum, Udipi, Lepakshi, along with beaches like Varkala and Kovalam, and elaborately decorated temples like those of the Hoysalas at Belur, Halebid, and Somnathpur, etc.
We will show Vedic temples, historical sights, architecture, detailed stone carvings, unique dance customs, people, festivals, art, and so on. This will give you a chance to view many areas that you may want and plan to see, or an opportunity to get a view of places you may never personally visit.
